2025 Tax Planning Checklist for Small Business Owners
Sarah Mitchell·January 15, 2025
Tax season doesn't have to be stressful. With the right preparation, small business owners can maximize deductions, stay compliant, and avoid last-minute surprises. Here's your complete checklist for 2025.
1. Review Your Business Structure
If your revenue has grown significantly, it may be time to evaluate whether an S-Corp election could save you on self-employment taxes. Consult your CPA before March 15 to make this election for the current tax year.
2. Maximize Retirement Contributions
SEP-IRA contributions can be made up to your tax filing deadline (including extensions). For 2025, the limit is the lesser of 25% of net self-employment income or $70,000. This is one of the most powerful deductions available to self-employed individuals.
